Western Australia’s (WA) Premier Colin Barnett was in Singapore recently to commemorate the international launch of Western Australia Worth Sharing, an export-focused agriculture brand.
Comprising over 60 companies from the 2.5 million sq m region of Western Australia, the initiative aims to share the producers and companies behind the state’s US$5.93 billion food export industry with local food importers and buyers. Mr Barnett said that figure is expected to double by 2030.
“Singapore is a highly sophisticated market, and one of the culinary capitals of the world. While WA’s agricultural exports to Singapore are strong, there is still significant scope for further growth and this is just one of the reasons why we have chosen Singapore as the location for our international launch,” added Mr Barnett.
In 2015 to 2016, Singapore was WA’s 11th largest export market for agri-food products, with exports valued at over US$122 million. The country is the only export market for WA’s pork, with exports valued at over US$23 million, and the largest export market for WA’s milk and milk products, with exports valued at US$20 million.
Ambassadors from 21 WA companies attended the Singapore launch event, connecting directly with local buyers. The initiative is also expected to launch in China, Indonesia and Japan in 2017.
