Food service provider Select Group Limited opened its new S$60 million (US$44.6 million) corporate headquarters at Senoko South Road at a ceremony officiated by Tharman Shanmugaratnam, deputy prime minister and coordinating minister for economic and social policies.

Mr Vincent Tan, managing director, Select Group Limited said, “Besides offering new products, Select looks to double production capacity by 2020. As such, we invested heavily in automation, to raise the productivity of our businesses. With less manpower-intensive processes, we can now focus more resources on innovating through R&D.”

The new 200,000 sq ft building houses new production and central kitchens, and training facilities. The company, which reported close to S$160 million in revenue in 2015, is also looking to expand its business capabilities into other countries such as Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand and Cambodia.

Amongst other things, the new Ready Meals production kitchen will use advanced cook-chill technology and automation to support Select Group’s venture into the ready-to-eat business.

Cook-chill is a process where cooked food is rapidly chilled to 4 deg C using blast chilling technology, before being packed and stored in a chiller or freezer. This helps to extend product shelf-life, while also improving food safety, as spoilage caused by microbial growth is slowed when food is heated to a high temperature then rapidly cooled.
