Provider of plant-based ingredients Naturex, is acquiring 100 percent of the shares of Swedish Oat Fiber, a manufacturer of oat-based extracts and ingredients.

The Swedish manufacturer produces oat beta glucans dietary fibres, oat oils and oat proteins for applications in the food, nutraceutical, cosmetic and animal feed industries. The company has been focussing on product traceability and the quality of raw materials based on long-term partnerships with local farmers and organic supplies. This is to enable secure sourcing and the quality of the oat varieties selected for their high content in beta glucans fibres.

The Swedish company relies on scientific expertise to develop new products, in particular on the cardiovascular health benefits of oat beta-glucans. The company also partners with scientists and academic experts to publish clinical studies to support its health claims by international food safety regulators.

Olivier Rigaud, chief executive officer and director, Naturex, stated: “This acquisition will support our development and diversification strategy into very promising market segments, such as dietary fibres with strong health claims, and specialty plant-based proteins, in line with new consumer trends.”

The addition of oat beta-glucan fibres to Naturex’s current portfolio—such as aronia, cocoa flavanols, and olive leafs—will offer their customers an additional natural solution with beneficial effects on cholesterol levels.
