Lucozade Ribena Suntory To Lower Beverage Sugar Content By 50 Percent

Drinks producer Lucozade Ribena Suntory will reformulate its beverage portfolio to contain less than 4.5 grams of total sugar per 100 ml by July 2017.

The reduced sugar contents come in light of the UK’s tax on sugar-sweetened beverages, which will impose a levy on beverages with more than 5 grams of sugar per 100 ml. The tax law will be introduced on April 2018.

This means cutting sugar content for the company’s beverage portfolio by up to 50 percent. Calories will also be labelled clearly on front of pack, and the company also announced plans to introduce new healthier drinks.

Chief operating officer Peter Harding said the decision to reduce sugar by 50 percent in Ribena, Lucozade and Orangina will resonate with consumers, who now want healthier drinks.
