Thailand Tray Sealing Demand Grows With Ready Meals and Fresh Food

Thailand’s growing ready-meal, fresh food and processed food sectors are driving demand for more automated packaging equipment, with tray sealing machines emerging as an important area of investment.

A new IndexBox market analysis projects Thailand’s tray sealing machine market to grow at around 6 to 8% annually between 2026 and 2035. Demand is being supported by the country’s role as a major food processing and export hub, alongside the expansion of cold-chain infrastructure and consumer demand for convenient food formats.

Food applications account for an estimated 60 to 70% of end-use demand, with fresh meat, poultry, seafood, ready meals and frozen foods among the main applications. Ready meals and convenience foods are identified as the fastest-growing segment as modern retail expands and consumers increasingly purchase prepared foods.

For food manufacturers, the shift is also tied to growing adoption of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), vacuum sealing and skin packaging. These formats can help extend shelf life and protect products during cold-chain distribution, while creating retail-ready packaging for fresh and prepared foods.

Automation is another factor shaping equipment investment. IndexBox estimates that automatic and MAP-capable tray sealers already represent around half to 60% of annual demand, while integration with filling, weighing and labelling systems is becoming increasingly important for larger processors and contract packers.

For ASEAN food manufacturers, Thailand’s market illustrates how packaging equipment is evolving alongside demand for convenience, longer shelf life and export-ready products.

As processors look to improve throughput and packaging consistency, equipment capable of supporting multiple formats and integrated production lines could become increasingly important.
