Saudi-Malaysian Partnership Targets Halal Protein Production and Processing
Wednesday, September 30th, 2026

A new Saudi Arabia-Malaysia partnership could open another route for halal protein companies seeking to expand production and distribution across Asia-Pacific.
Tanmiah Food Company and Tradewinds (M) Berhad have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) covering halal protein production, importation, processing, branding and distribution in Malaysia and the wider APAC region. According to Tanmiah’s press release, The companies will explore exporting Saudi-produced chicken to Malaysia, investing in a Malaysian further-processing facility and using Malaysia as a regional production and export hub. They will also assess potential investments across farming, hatcheries and poultry processing.
For ASEAN food manufacturers, the development highlights the growing role of Malaysia as a platform for halal food manufacturing and regional market access. A local processing base could allow imported protein products to be further processed and positioned for markets across the region, while dual halal certification is intended to support the partnership’s branding and market expansion strategy.
“This partnership brings together two organisations with complementary strengths and a shared vision for advancing halal excellence. Malaysia’s strong halal credentials, manufacturing capabilities and strategic access to regional markets make it an ideal platform for growth,” said Dennis Foo, Group Chief Executive Officer of Tradewinds.
The MoU is currently a framework for cooperation rather than a confirmed investment or production launch. However, it points to opportunities for ASEAN processors in halal poultry, further processing, contract manufacturing, cold-chain distribution and export-oriented production as regional demand for halal-certified products expands. For manufacturers, this also places greater emphasis on traceability, certification, cold-chain handling and capacity planning across multiple export markets.
