Cupffee, a Bulgarian startup, has created an edible coffee cup that consumers can munch on once they’ve finished their drink. The cup is made from vegan ingredients such as oat bran, wheat flour and water. It is 100% GMO-free with no artificial colourants, sweeteners or preservatives. It is also 100% vegan. And, rest assured that the cup does not alter the taste of your beverage.
The cup is conveniently made for both cold and hot drinks up to 85 ˚C. It is crunchy and light thanks to its thermal and moisture resistance — the cup stays crunchy for at least 40 minutes and will not leak for one full day. Additionally, it is low in calories at 56 or 105kcal, depending on the size you choose — 110ml or 220ml.
Cupffee is not the only brand that offers this novel edible packaging solution.
Good-Edi was founded by two environmentally conscious Australians who have 20 years of experience in food processing. They acknowledged that takeaway cups are handy, but they are appalled that 2.7 million of them are thrown into landfills each day in Australia. So they developed an edible cup, making sure that it was done in Australia with locally and ethically sourced ingredients.
Incredible Eats was founded by individuals from various backgrounds and cultures, but could bond over their shared passion for sustainability. They are currently on a mission to remove plastic waste from the ocean. According to WWF, there could be more plastic than fish in the sea by weight by 2050. So, they hope to make a difference to removing food waste in the ocean by producing edible cutlery and straws.
