Cargill Invests US$130 Million in Asia Poultry Operations

Cargill is investing more than US$130 million over the next two years to expand its poultry operations in Thailand and the Philippines, highlighting the growing role of processing capacity, automation and feed infrastructure in Asia’s protein supply chain.
The investment includes a new automated cooked chicken line at Cargill’s Saraburi plant in Thailand, expected in 2028. It also covers a 30,000-tonne grain silo in Thailand and a 190,000-tonne feed mill in the Philippines, alongside expanded hatchery, breeder and broiler networks.
Cargill expects its total cooked poultry volume to increase to approximately 160,000 tonnes, while the Thailand expansion is intended to strengthen exports to markets including Japan, Europe, Asia and North America.
For ASEAN food manufacturers, the announcement points to broader trends. First, investment is moving beyond primary poultry production into integrated supply chains covering feed, farming, processing and storage. This can improve coordination of raw materials and production capacity.
Second, automation and data technologies are becoming part of food processing expansion. Cargill says the programme will incorporate advanced machinery and artificial intelligence into data processing to support faster decision-making and strengthen food quality and safety management.
“Demand for high-quality protein continues to grow across global markets, and customers are looking for reliable innovation partners who can help them scale with confidence,” said Watcharapon Prasopkiatpoka, Vice President and Managing Director, Poultry APAC at Cargill.
The expansion reinforces Thailand and the Philippines as poultry production locations. For manufacturers and foodservice suppliers, such investments could influence sourcing, processing partnerships and demand for automation and food safety technologies across Southeast Asia.
