FoodDrinkEurope, Europe’s food sector body, introduces new website to meet the United Nation’s sustainable development goals.

FoodDrinkEurope’s new website aims to help the F&B industry meet the sustainable development goals (SDG) set forth in the United Nations’ 2030 agenda for sustainable development. The website will focus on the F&B industry and target various sub-sectors, including: ending hunger, promoting health and education, climate action, responsible production and consumption, climate action, economic growth, innovation and infrastructure.

Due to the large reach of the targeted sub-sectors, Mella Frewen, director general of FoodDrinkEurope, comments that the goals cannot be attained independently. Instead, various players in the European Union’s food industry need to be mindful of their role towards meeting their SDGs. met for the first time on Wednesday, 10 January 2018 to follow up on the implementation of the various SDGs set forth for sustainable development.

During the first European Commission’s multi-stakeholder platform meeting, FoodDrinkEurope showcased the resources attributed by the European F&B industry to reach their SDGs. Examples of these goals are: “reducing the number of deaths and illnesses caused by hazardous chemicals and water pollution, reducing food waste and ending malnutrition”.

The meeting highlighted that every stakeholder needs to contribute to the knowledge base and “work from the grassroots up” to “reshape our economies and societies”.
